After 10 + Years In Development Hell Our Own Michael J Is Resurrecting His CAMPOUT NIGHTMARE Franchise
In 2014, after two failed attempts at shooting a remake to the franchise started in 1988, Mike decided that a change of course was needed because plans for the proposed remake fell apart and he wanted to keep the series alive. So after he and then Avery McReynolds wrote drafts, John Rhoades (The Morbidly Made, VHS Life, Rabbit In Red Radio, Movie Misfits, & Road Trip Cinema) came along and worked magic!
HORRORINDEPENDENT FILMMOVIES
Originally set to release in the fall of this year, production had to be pushed back to Spring/Summer 2026 and is now set for a September 2026 release. Casting will soon be underway as the majority of the film will shoot in northwestern Pennsylvania. Mike will direct the film. John Rhoades, aside from the writing and other behind the scenes duties, will play the character of Thorn this time around and there are plans to feature Jim Hyde Jr (who played the character in Parts 3-6) in some capacity.
The logline follows:
“It’s been 40 years since a horrific string of murders rocked the small community of Youngsville, Pennsylvania… Now, as the sole survivor is forced to return and confront his tragic past, all caught on film by an ambitious documentary film crew… Evil returns!”
